The Chilean Law and Society Study Group invites academics, undergraduate and graduate students, and professionals interested in the empirical study of law and its interactions with the humanities and social sciences to submit proposals for the IV Chilean Congress on Law and Society. The event will take place at the Universidad de Concepción on September 24, 25, and 26, 2025.
The study of law from empirical and interdisciplinary perspectives in Latin America has contributed to moving beyond the strictly normative and formalistic approaches that have historically characterized legal thought in the region. This conference continues this effort, aiming to provide a space for reflection on the functioning of law as a social phenomenon and how it both influences and takes shape through multiple social, economic, and cultural dynamics.
Since its first edition in 2018, the Chilean Conference on Law and Society has served as a key platform for building a network of socio-legal scholars in the country. At the same time, the conference has strengthened connections among academics across Latin America, enriching regional dialogue. This ongoing collaboration has led to the creation of the first Association of Law and Society Studies in Chile, which is currently in the process of formalization.
For its fourth edition, the conference seeks to further enhance interdisciplinary and critical dialogues on legality, reinforcing both professional and epistemological ties among researchers at national and regional levels.
